This video, produced by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, has been released as part of the current Israeli political contest where the extreme right wing of Israel is attempting to maintain the rightist complexion of the Israeli government. The video plays on age-old Jewish stereotypes of the hook-nosed Jew willing to do anything for a gold coin. That alone is offensive enough, as this condemnation by the Anti-Defamation League demonstrates.
But for me, the truly offensive aspect of this video is how it makes the case that working for peace between Israelis and Palestinians or defending Palestinian and Israeli human rights somehow makes you a threat to the country. In effect, the right-wing in Israel is saying “Cursed be the Peacemakers”.
If that is the case, that the extreme right wing in Israel believes that defending human rights and advocating peace makes you a threat, then you need to seriously contemplate the veracity of the catchphrase slogans used by Israelis and their right-wing American allies (e.g. there is no partner for peace; when Palestinians love their children more than they hate us) that are used to foist blame upon the Palestinians for the lack of peace and security.
Right-wing Israelis and their American allies cannot have it both ways. They cannot vilify those seeking peace and then castigate Palestinians for not wanting peace.
